  1. A couple of things here caught my attention. Where I live the winters are pretty extreme at times, and I’ve been reading about the hook knives for cutting a seat belt in an emergency like sliding off the road and into a pond. I almost had that happen once, and I know a person who drowned from such an incident. I think it would be a good idea to carry a Gerber Crisis Hook Knife in the vehicle for this reason. Where is the best place to keep it in the car for easy access?

Also, we do a lot of hiking and the Gerber Bear Grylls Fire Starter is a neat looking gadget. But what would you need to use it? How well does it ignite raw material? Or should a person carry something like paper to start a fire using it?

Great review of awesome knives and tools! Thanks! 🙂

    1. If your vehicle has a center console that would be an ideal place. The glove compartment might be to far to reach in case of emergencies. Other than that how about down by the right side of the driver’s seat? I think the Bear Grylls Fire Starter puts out such a high heat that it would light any type of small dry matter but it would not hurt to bring some newspaper or BBQ starter cubes with you.

  2. This is really one of the best reviews that I have seen about Gerber knives. What I most like about this knives is their design. They look so powerful and it is very easy to work with them. Prices are definitely justified because quality of this knives is incredible. I am using the one that I bought even 3 years ago and it sharp as when I bought him.

  3. Crikey, David! Gerber! That’s a name that takes me back to my youth. I remember owning a Gerber as a boy scout. It was my pride and job. It’s been too long now which knife it was, but it was a great woodsman’s blade. Reading your article took my mind back some 50 years! They were great times in the sixties! Does Gerber still make any of the classic woodsman’s knife from yesteryear?

    1. I am glad I could rekindle some old memories for you. unfortunately it looks Gerber no longer makes the Woodsman’s blade knife. However I am sure you could find something that works just as good.

  4. This is certainly a comprehensive review on different knives from Gerber.

I personally haven’t looked into it before but I am in need of something I can handle in working in my backyard without using too heavy equipment. I am also a bit scared, still, to use big tools.

I see the Gerber combo of Ax II should be something I could use.

Do you think a woman can handle this or are there other knives in your opinion which I can use to cut down smaller branches by myself?

Thank you for your help appreciated

    1. It just really depends on how strong you are. It will get easier for you the more you do it. Depending on how big the branches are a pair of pruning shears or lopping shears might work better. Here is a review of Fiskars garden tools that might be helpful for you.
